The Greater Cashiers Area Merchants Association’s popular concert series, now in its third year, opens Friday, June 10, and will continue on selected Friday evenings into October. There is really nothing more enjoyable than a cool and starry mountain summer evening in Cashiers listening to bands, vocalists and entertainers from blue grass to blues, rock and even Cajun.
The 2011 concert season promises to be the best ever according to Groovin’ on the Green Chair Pat Grady owner of Midnight Farms in Cashiers. Moonshine Babies return for opening night June 10. Moonshine Babies is a popular group with concert goers.
The schedule for the selected Friday evenings is: June 17- Nikki Talley and Friends; July 8 - The Shawn James Band; July 22 - Hurricane Creek; July 29 - Velvet Truck Stop; Aug. 12 - Les Freres Michot; Aug. 26 - The Fishsticks; Sept. 16 - The Carol Strickland Band; Sept. 2 - Angela Reign and Band; Sept. 9 - Hurricane Creek.
The final Groovin’ evening will kick-off the weekend long entertainment program for the GCAMA’s Cashiers Valley Leaf Festival on Friday, Oct. 7. Food will be available for purchase from a featured local restaurant at each concert. Concertgoers may bring their own picnic-fare, beverages and snacks along with blankets or chairs for seating.
