Arts & Entertainment Ballroom dance classes being offered at WCU

Local residents will have an opportunity to dance away their winter blues starting in early February at Western Carolina University.

“Beginning Ballroom” dance classes will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays beginning Feb. 3 and continuing until March 17. Participants will learn dances such as the waltz, tango, cha-cha, swing and fox trot, as well as the basics of leading and following in social ballroom dance.

Students are welcome to attend with or without a partner, and should come to class in comfortable soft-bottomed shoes.

Instructor Heidi Turlington, who holds degrees in dance and physical education, was formerly a competitive dancer and is an experienced dance teacher.

Offered by WCU’s Division of Educational Outreach, the sessions will be held in Room 134 of the Cordelia Camp Building. The cost is $59 and registration will continue through the first week of classes.

To register or for more information, call (828)227-7397 or go to http://learn.wcu.edu.
