The Jackson County Public Library will be offering an introductory class in Qigong on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. The class will be held in the Community Room in the Library Complex.
Laura Elliott will be the facilitator of the class. As a holistic therapist and facilitator of wellness workshops, Elliott’s passion is to inspire the freedom of heart and health of body, mind and spirit. She has been practicing energy medicine and the oriental exercises of Tai Chi and Qigong for over 15 years and is a certified Healing Touch practitioner.
There are many health benefits of Qigong. Excellent for people of all ages, it is a gentle practice designed to keep your energy moving. Our flow of energy can become blocked by stress, illness and injury, which leads to more blockage and illness. This practice revitalizes our energy – building strength, agility and balance – allowing the body to heal itself. In particular, regular practice can reduce heart rate and blood pressure, and improve the immune system, digestion and metabolism.
Working on all levels of our being, this practice also promotes peace of mind and improves concentration, sharpening the brain. It is meditative in nature, expanding one’s consciousness and imagination, uniting the body, mind and spirit in harmony.
