Arts & Entertainment Glassblowing classes offered at Jackson Green Energy Park

– Beginning Glassblowing with artist Tadashi Torii is being offered Thursdays Nov. 14, 21, Dec. 5, 12, at 6 to 9 p.m., at the Jackson County Green Energy Park. Learn to gather molten glass from the furnace, and then begin to understand how to form molten glass into basic shapes such as paperweights, small cups, vases and bowls. The instruction will focus on a team approach to glassblowing, with an emphasis on safety, proper tool use, basic techniques, and materials. No experience necessary. Come and learn from a master glass blower with 20 years of experience.

– Intermediate Glassblowing is offered on Wednesdays, Nov. 13, 20, Dec. 4, and 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. In this intermediate class, students will work with skills learned in previous classes and develop new techniques for working with glass. Students will learn how to work with a partner, while using skills covered each week. The class will cover several different techniques including lip wraps, handles, dropped foot, hot bits, and the use of optic molds. Bring your own sketchbook with drawings, ideas and/or questions so that we can talk about it in class. Prerequisite: Completion of Beginning Class.
