A group handbell performance will take place at First United Methodist Church in Franklin, on Saturday, March 22, at 5 p.m. Five handbell groups from around the area are participating in a Saturday workshop and the 5 p.m. performance. Audience seating is available for around 60 people. The group ring will consist of three pieces. A special quintet performance will also take place. This event is thought to be the first of its kind in the Franklin area.
The handbell groups are from First United Methodist and First Presbyterian Churches in Franklin; Highlands United Methodist Church, Highlands; First United Methodist Church, Cashiers; and First Baptist Church, Blairsville, Ga.
The group ring is sponsored by First United Methodist Church and their handbell choir. Pat and Henry Meinecke are the workshop clinicians. Pat Meinecke is director of the Brasstown Ringers and a nationally known instructor for the Handbell Musicians of America. Henry Meinecke has written an handbell technique manual and is an instructor on how to safely ring bells.
