CULLOWHEE – Tickets will go on sale Monday, Feb. 28, for a concert featuring two up-and-coming acts in the world of country music appearing soon at Western Carolina University. Eric Church will be performing live with special guest The Band Perry at WCU’s Ramsey Regional Activity Center at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 14.

Church, a native of Granite Falls, is quickly developing a devoted following with his lyrically honest, guitar-driven country music. Already a passionate songwriter at age 13, Church continued composing and performing his music all the way through his college years, after which he moved to Nashville with the hopes of launching a singing career.

If you have ever wondered how beautiful stained glass is made, Fire and Light Glass Studio owner John Phillips can tell you. Not only can he tell you, he can teach you everything there is to know about art glass and welcome you into his studio to learn how to create works of art using stained glass or fused glass methods.

Located just off Highway 441S in Otto, Phillips opened his 2,200 foot studio six years ago after moving from Duluth, Ga., where he started his glass business in 1980. Phillips decided to move to Otto and into a much smaller studio so he could slow down and relax a bit.

A Poetry Alive presentation was held at the Macon County Public Library and some area schools this week. Ken and Nadine Delano made poetry come alive by acting out Nursery Rhymes and involving students.

Based in Asheville, Poetry Alive! performs to 600,000 students each year, appearing in all 50 states and many foreign countries. The Delanos recently performed in Istanbul, Turkey.

Celebrate all things imaginary as Horton the Elephant, the Cat In the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, the Sour Kangaroo, and more, sing and dance their way off the pages of some of Dr. Seuss’ best loved stories in “Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss” March 1 and 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts.

“Happy Birthday” is not just a show for kids, but for everyone who enjoys an evening at the theater. Many adults will remember the characters and stories from their childhood and will enjoy seeing them spring to life in bright colors on the stage.
