Christeen ‘Tennie’ GrantChristeen ‘Tennie’ Grant

Christeen “Tennie” Grant, 68 of Plant City, Fla., formerly of Nantahala, N.C., passed away July 26, 2012, at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Fla.

She loved to live for the Lord. She used her talents of singing and playing the piano to share her faith with others. She and her husband, Marvin, went on mission trips to Africa annually from 1992-2006. She also went on mission trips to Jamaica and Turks & Caicos Islands.

She was the daughter of Anna Nichols Rowland of Aquone, N.C., and the late Elmer “Red” Rowland. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Marvin Grant; her three children, Darla Jones, Brad Grant and wife Jayne of Nantahala, Tyra Grant of Gibsonville, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Tristan Smith and wife Dana of Nantahala, Nathan Grant and wife Carrie of Robbinsville, Jessica and Amanda Grant, Kasidy, Dustyn and Levi Garrett; two great-grandchildren, Miracle and Noah Grant; one step-great granddaughter, Danielle Crabtree; two sisters, Phyllis Bateman and husband Bert of Aquone, Shirley Oswalt and husband Tom of Aquone and Lakeland, Fla., and one brother, Joe Rowland and wife Judy of Aquone; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, cousins and family friends.

She will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her memory at the United Community Bank, Andrews, N.C., to assist with medical expenses.

A memorial service will be held at Briartown Baptist Church at noon, Saturday, Aug. 4. The family will receive friends before the service.

Laura Russell TaylorLaura Russell Taylor

Laura Russell Taylor, 91, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Friday, July 27, 2012. She was born in Macon County, the daughter of the late Herman and Rhoda McCall Russell. She was married to Ralph Taylor who passed away in 2000. She was a restaurant cook and was a member of Ellijay Missionary Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved watching birds and feeding wildlife.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Welch of Dillard, Ga.; her son, Bruce Hopkins and his companion Gail Crisp; grandchildren, Chris Welch, Anthony Sesso III, Crystal Stebbins, Lisa Belugazima and Debbie Lambert; special friends, Carolyn Ayers, Grace Houston and Gail Crisp and beloved puppies, Tinker and Babie; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Mike Hopkins; sister, Pearl Webb; and brothers, James, John, Howard and Gilmer Russell.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Aug. 4 at 2 p.m. at Ellijay Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Morris Tippett officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made to Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Franklin, NC 28734

Martha Geneva Lutz Hunnicutt

Martha Geneva Lutz Hunnicutt, 87, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012. Born in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late B. O. and Carrie Lugene Rhoney Lutz. She was married to the late Jimmie Thomas Hunnicutt who died in 1995. She was a member of Wells Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, James T. Hunnicutt Jr. of Union, S.C. formerly of Franklin; a daughter-in-law, Carlene Angel Hunnicutt; two sisters, Virginia Buff of Casar, N.C. and Mary Johnson of Hildebran, N.C.; two brothers, Noah Lee Lutz of Conover, N.C. and Carl Lutz of Hickory, N.C.; two grandchildren, Angela Hunnicutt Stewart and husband Brad of Franklin, and Jon Eric Hunnicutt and wife Jessie of Union, S.C., and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Don Leonard Hunnicutt who died in 1969; a sister, Ruby Walker and a brother, Hoke Lutz.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 28, in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Dixon and Rev. Vic Greene officiating. Burial was in Wells Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jimmy Wiggins, Roger Guest, Jackie Cook, Jerry Cook, Tim Cook and Mike Holland.

James William Mathis LambertJames William Mathis Lambert

James William Mathis Lambert, 42, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Friday, July 20, 2012. Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late James Dudley and Helen Mae Bates Mathis. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served during Operation Desert Storm, was a landscaper and builder and liked fishing. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a graduate of Pisgah High School.

He is survived by his foster parents, Sam and Hillaine Lambert; foster sisters, Lyndsay, Rachel and Krisy of Cherokee, N.C.; one son, Sammy Lambert and Sammy’s mother, Leysa Lambert of Sylva, N.C.; five sisters, Alma McClure, Peggy Roberts, Minnie Mathis, Jessica Webb all of Franklin, and Ann Mathis of Sylva; two brothers, Ronnie Bates and Christopher Mathis both of Franklin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patty Mathis and a brother, Carl Bates.

A memorial service was held Sunday, July 29, in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Benny Hurst officiating.

Mary Adalene Dillingham

Mary Adalene Dillingham, 89, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Conley and Mae Dillingham Tallent. She was an eldercare worker and former member of Windy Gap Baptist Church. She was a loving sister, she loved people and doing for others and loved embroidery.

She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Tallent Wilkes of Franklin, and Barbara Tallent Shuler of Kingsport, Tenn. and a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Tallent Wilburn and three brothers, Don, Jack and Tommy Tallent.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, at 6 p.m. in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. David Lee Williams officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 till 6 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Paralee DouthitParalee Douthit

Paralee Douthit, 90, of Nantahala Community, Topton, died Friday, July 27, 2012, in a Franklin hospital. She was a native and lifetime resident of Macon County. She had worked for Owenby Manufacturing for 24 years. She was a member of the Briartown Baptist Church but had been attending Cowee Baptist Church in Franklin.

She was the daughter of the late Amos Allen and Flossie Mason Grant and the wife of the late James Buel Douthit, who died June 29, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Earl Douthit.

Surviving are four daughters, Glenda Sue Barnwell and husband, Donald of Swannanoa, N.C., Linda Jecille Harrison and husband, Ray of Franklin, Cathey Cearley of Mineral Bluff, Ga., and Vanessa Carole Vinson and husband, Steven of Franklin: two sons, William Jack Douthit and Johnny Douthit both of Andrews; three sisters, Muriel Denny of Topton, Hope Franklin of Andrews, and Della Campbell of Robbinsville; a brother, Jack Grant of Conover, N.C.; five grandchildren, Kim Hayes, Chuck Brank, Jay Douthit, Israel Douthit, and Kayla Davenport; five great-grandchildren, Emily Hayes, Dylan Brank, Jace Douthit, Wyatt Douthit, and Julia Douthit; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 30, in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with Rev. David Powell officiating. Interment was in Briartown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack Douthit, Tommy Duvall, Roger Grant, Allen Grant, Sam Franklin, and Doug Denny. Honorary pallbearer was Mike Douthit.

The family requests memorials be made in her memory to the Briartown Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Juanita Deweese, 19292 Wayah Rd., Aquone, NC 28781.

Cynthia Lee Stoddard

Cynthia Lee Stoddard, 59, of Franklin, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012.

Born in Dade City, Fla., she was the daughter of Gloria Ann Stoddard and the late Alexander Elliot Stoddard. Cynthia was a member of Burningtown Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her brother, Dana Stoddard of Franklin.

No services have been planned at this time.

John Lee ParaultJohn Lee Parault

John Lee Parault, 70, of Franklin, N.C. passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012.

Born in Gross Tate, La., he was the son of the late John and Earline Parault. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He faithfully served the Lord as a pastor for over 50 years; 20 years as pastor and founder of Son Rise Ministries.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Rene V. Parault who served with him in Son Rise Ministries; one sister, Gwen Parault of Stillwater, Okla.; one daughter, Rhonda Glover of Carbondale, Colo.; one son, Timothy Parault of North Pole, Alaska; two stepdaughters; Darlene Keller and Sue Carrion of Franklin; two stepsons, Ed LaPlante of Pembroke Pines, Fla. and Robert Andersson of Phoenix, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren including the late Jason LaPlante and Daniel Glover and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 3rd at First Assembly of God, 1150 East Main St. Franklin, NC with Rev. Leno Dial officiating.

Walter Eugene Mance

Walter Eugene Mance, 79, of Clayton, Ga., passed away July 23, 2012, at Augusta Burn Center.

He was born in Hartwell, Ga., and was the son of Eugene Walter (Buster) Mance and Icy Moore Mance.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, Chris, who lost his battle with cancer on April 29, 2012, and Anthony Mance; a brother, James Sullivan Moore; and a sister, Mary Helen Brown.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Evelyn Owens Mance; two daughters, Cherryl Long and her husband, Rev. Farris Long Sr. of Clayton, Shelia Mance Wright and her husband Tracy of Martin, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Mance of Gainesville, Ga.; one brother, Willie Lee Mance of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Janie Mance Scott of Clayton, Alma Jean Mance Masih of Newnan, Ga.; and three sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law; six grandchildren, Lavon Scott of Eastanollee, Ga., Keyshia Mayfield of Clayton, Trey Wright of Clayton, Brian Mance of Gainesville, Ga., Shlea Wright of Martin, Ga., and Farris Mance of Gainesville, Ga.; and one great-grandchild, Isia Wilmont of Clayton.

He worked as a butcher for the Clayton Super Market, and attended Ivy Hill Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, the Atlanta Braves, gardening and working with his flowers. His family always came first, and he was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 28, at Ivy Hill Baptist Church with Elder Hubert Grant officiating. Burial followed in Penland Cemetery.
