Dillie Wykle GreenDillie Wykle Green

Dillie Wykle Green, 86, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013. She was born in Macon County, the daughter of the late Samuel and Margaret Lavada Messer Wykle. She was married to George Green, who passed away in 1996. She was a homemaker and a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grand, great and great-great grandmother; she loved growing flowers and gardening.

She is survived by three daughters, Lillie Ammons of Franklin, Linda Eulene Owens and husband Frank of Rincon, Ga., and Yevon McClain and husband Monroe of Clayton, Ga.; four sons, Harold Green and wife Charlene of Ocala, Fla., George Green of Franklin, Ronnie Green of Mt. Pilot, N.C., and J. C. Hurst of Sylva, N.C.; a brother, Willie Wykle of Franklin; 18 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Gladys Ann Green, five sisters, and four brothers.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 24, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, with Rev. Thomas Fouts and Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Elizabeth HealyElizabeth ‘Betty’ Whitcomb Healy

Elizabeth “Betty” Whitcomb Healy, 91, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at a local hospital. Born in Syracuse, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Leon C. and Hazel C. Whitcomb Healy. She was a bookkeeper and assistant office manager for Holland & Holland attorneys for 29 years. She was an accountant for several motels. She was in the Hall of Fame for meritorious service in both St. Petersburg Women’s Bowling Association and Florida State Women’s Bowling Association. She had numerous awards for bowling writing and silver medals in bowling doubles and singles and badminton doubles in National Senior Olympics. She was a member of the N.C. Women’s Bowling Association, WNC Women’s Bowling Association, National Women’s Bowling Writers, Save Our Rivers, Inc., Nature Conservancy Legacy Club and the Macon County Senior Games. She was a member of the St. Agnes Episcopal Church where she served as an assistant treasure and was co-directress of Altar Guild.

She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Healy Miller and husband Donald R. Miller of Franklin, and many, many friends.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb. 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Episcopal Church with Rev. Dorrie Pratt officiating.

William J. KuznickiWilliam Joseph Kuznicki

William Joseph Kuznicki, 74, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013.

Born in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Francis Kuznicki and Stella Hebda Kuznicki. He worked as an electrical engineer for Motorola for more than 38 years and developed numerous patented technologies for the company. He received Patent of the Year award in 1995. He was a member of Mill Creek Men’s Golf Club and St. Francis Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Evelyn Anna Kuznicki; two daughters, Susan Watford and husband Charles of Oviedo, Fla. and Karen Rogers and husband Tres of Franklin and six grandchildren, Lauren and Emily Watford and Preston, Hunter, Brooke and Bryce Rogers.

A funeral mass was held Monday, Feb. 25, at St. Francis Catholic Church. Father Tien Duong officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Charles Watford, Tres Rogers, Gary Mede, Moose Rogers, Joe Culpepper and Everett Ferris.

Sandra Lea OxleySandra Lea Oxley

Sandra Lea Oxley, 69, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013.

Born in Miami, Fla., she was the daughter of the late David Phillips and Myrtle Manoma Penland Phillips. She worked as a bookkeeper for Publix for several years. She loved her family and will be remembered for her infectious laugh. Her family lovingly joked that her favorite hobby was stealing photographs from different family members each time she visited.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip Oxley of Franklin; three children, Robin Lynn McGee and husband Mike of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Troy Douglas McCutcheon and wife Karla of Loxahatchee, Fla. and Shawn Allan McCutcheon and wife Tracy of Franklin; seven brothers and sisters, Joanne, Simone, Simon, David, Wanda, Linda and Colleen; six grandchildren; one greatgrandchild and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering of family and friends was held at Phillip and Sandie’s home on Friday, Feb. 22.

Danny WelchDanny Welch

Danny Welch, 64, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013.

Born in Charlotte, N.C., he was the son of the late Addie Belle Welch. He was a member of Burningtown Baptist Church, member of the Rescue Squad, member of the Civil Air Patrol and was former Fire Chief for Burningtown Fire Department.

He is survived by his son, Johnathon Welch and wife Lisa of Franklin and two grandchildren, Ashlee Welch and Tanner Welch.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Randy Drinnon and Rev. Patrick Welch will officiate. Burial will be in the Burningtown Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Macon Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be members of the Burningtown Volunteer Fire Department.

Rebecca S. HensonRebecca S. Henson

Rebecca S. Henson, 84, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Pinkney Wilson Smart and Bertha Cunningham Smart. She was married to the late James Hoover Henson who died in 1991. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a beautician; loved reading, volunteered for years for TEFAP (Humana Food Drive) and attended Wide Horizon Community Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Lynn Henson Bingham and husband Harvey, Beth Henson Tallent and husband Jerry E. and Jane Henson Downs and husband Ronnie all of Franklin; six grandchildren, Michelle, Laura, Paul, Lucas, Zachary and Casey and two great-grandchildren, Owen and Greyson.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Smart.

A memorial service was held, Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Wide Horizon Community Church with Rev. George Mechling officiating.

Jimmie SetserJimmie Ruth Whitman Setser

Jimmie Ruth Whitman Setser, 76, of Franklin, N.C., passed away quietly in her sleep surrounded by her family Friday, Feb. 22, 2013. Born in Macon County, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Wilson Whitman and Mary Ledbetter Whitman. She was married to Lt. Colonel Fredrick "Bo" Setser for 56 years. She was a Registered Nurse; an army wife, vice president of her high school Beta Club, a member of FTA, FFA, Officer’s Wives Club, German- American Club and Red Cross. She was a member of Liberty Methodist Church in Notasulga, Ala. She was an excellent painter and liked gardening.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Dierdre Greer Setser of Newnan, Ga., Fredrika J. Setser of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Kennetha A. McConnell and husband Robert of Woodstock, Ga.; one sister, Linda Carroll of Tuskegee, Ala. and one granddaughter, Brianna McConnell.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Whitman.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 25, in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. David Duncan and Rev. Vic Greene officiating. Burial was in St. John’s Church Cemetery.

Justin CrippenJustin Crippen

Justin Crippen, 17, of Otto, N.C., passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013.

Born in Gilroy, Calif., he was the son of James Crippen and Elizabeth “Beth” Rogers Crippen. He was a graduate of Union Academy. He was an avid soccer fan, was very artistic and enjoyed writing poetry.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiancée, Heather Bacon of Cleveland, Ga.; his unborn daughter, Arryana Justine; seven brothers, Jason Crippen, Gabriel Crippen, Daniel Crippen, Nolan Rogers, Nick Rogers, Tyler Rogers and Michael Crippen; his grandmother, Deanna Reeder of Asheville; numerous aunts, uncles and extended family members

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Alan Waters will officiate. A reception will follow.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Karen Leigh OdgersKaren Leigh Odgers

Karen Leigh Odgers, 56, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, following a brief illness.

She grew up in Burlington, N.C., and attended Appalachian State University.

She currently owned and operated Karen Leigh Odgers Jewelry Designs with her husband Artemus Autlav based out of Franklin. She and special friend and former husband, Larry Daugherty, owned and operated the Ice Cream Parlor in Southern Pines for 22 years.

She was always passionate about arts and design and loved the Appalachian Mountains. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.

She is survived by husband, Artemus Autlav; daughter, Meredith Daugherty and granddaughter, Brielle; son, Matthew Daugherty and wife, Danielle; mother, Dorothy Odgers; sister, Judy Smith and husband, Harry; and nieces Kathryn Simpson and Briana Atwell; three step-daughters Stephanie Jenkins, Rachael Leming and Elizabeth Allison Autlav; one step-son Anteus Vladmir Autlav and two step-grandchildren Kristen and Gavin Jenkins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Macon County or Moore County Public School Arts Departments.

Robert A. Henson

Robert A. Henson, 61, of Otto, N.C., passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013.

Born in Lodi, Ohio, he was the son of the late James J. Henson and Jewel Conner Henson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Henson and a stepson, Allen Hafer Henson. He was an active member of Coweeta Baptist Church where he served as usher; was an avid model railroader; volunteer sheriff’s deputy in Medina, Ohio and was a volunteer fireman in West Salem, Ohio. He also worked as a cashier at Walmart for 11 years.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Bonnie Nichols Henson; daughter, Alice Klose and husband Michael of Denison, Texas; two grandsons, Gage Klose and Preston Klose; and god child grandson, Chase Meese.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Coweeta Baptist Church. Rev. Davis Hooper officiated.
