William Charles TaborWilliam Charles Tabor

William Charles Tabor, 47, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at his residence. He was born in Cherokee County, N.C., the son of J.C. and Barbara Sutton Tabor of Bryson City, N.C. He was a 1984 graduate of Swain County High School. He was a concrete dispatcher for Southern Concrete Materials and was a member of Prentiss Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a loving husband, father and son who loved the outdoors and camping.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 15 years, Jessica Leigh Wilson Tabor; his daughters, LesLeigh Nicole Tabor of the home and Amanda Tabor of Bryson City; one son, Matthew Tabor of Bryson City; two brothers, J.C. Tabor and his wife, Miriam of Robbinsville, N.C. and Michael Tabor and his wife, Misty of Bryson City; two nephews, Zach Tabor and Cody Wilson; and one niece, Megan Wilson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 16, in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial was held in the Prentiss Baptist Church Cemetery. Kevin Sanders, Bobby Greene, Mark Chastain, Bobby Johns, J.C. Tabor, Jr, Michael Tabor, Doug Ledford and Eddie Evans served as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, Duke University Medical Center, DUMC Box 3624, Durham, NC 27710.

Jesse L. ‘Sonny’ SandersJesse L. ‘Sonny’ Sanders

Jesse L. “Sonny” Sanders, 85, of Asheville, formerly of Macon County, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013, in Asheville, N.C. He was born in Macon County, the son of the late Jesse L. Sanders Sr. and Ida Florence Shope Sanders. He had worked in a textile mill doing electrical maintenance. He was a loving husband and father, he liked working crossword puzzles, and NASCAR racing. He was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church and was active in his Sunday School class.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lucille Jennings Sanders; one son, Stan Sanders and his wife, Ann of Leicester, N.C.; three sisters, Betty Owens of Charlotte, N.C., Olivia Reece of Anderson, S.C. and Amelia Trull of Etowah, N.C.; three brothers, Harris Sanders of Greenville, S.C., Jay Sanders and Jim Sanders both of Franklin, N.C. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Willa Styles, Elura Belle Walters, Margaret Harrison and Edith Conley and two brothers, Charles Sanders and Timothy Sanders.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 21, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Randy Drinnon officiating. Burial will be in Prentiss Baptist Church Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Frank Richard Nolle, Sr.Frank Richard Nolle, Sr.

Frank Richard Nolle Sr., 81, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 16, 2013.

He was born in Apopka, Fla., in 1931, moved to these beautiful mountains he called home in 1989. He will be sorely missed by his wife of 63 years, his children, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren and his friends.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he loved his Sunday School class, and the Wednesday morning Bible study.

Nothing gave him more pleasure than to walk his little dog around the neighborhood, with the sun shining on his back. He would always say, “Thank you Lord for sunshine and neighbors.” God bless his sweet soul.

Rebecca Sue LackeyRebecca Sue Lackey

Rebecca Sue Lackey went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on March 16, 2013. She was a radiant Christian and a loving example to her family, church, and many friends.

Her passion was to serve others and she walked as a witness to Jesus Christ in her commitment to Him. She loved living and all of those that were in her life. Her artistic talents blessed many with her singing and painting.

During her four-year battle with cancer she kept her faith in Christ and a sense of humor that blessed all. It was her desire that thanks be given to God with each day.

A memorial service with the family was held Wednesday, March 20, at First Assembly of God, Franklin, N.C.

John Henry HopkinsJohn Henry Hopkins

John Henry Hopkins, 63, of Otto, N.C., passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at his residence. He was born in Macon County, the son of the late Raleigh and Maude Bingham Hopkins. He was a carpenter and truck driver, and of the Baptist faith. He loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed his chickens, cattle, bees and goats.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Hopkins; two sons, Stacey Allen Hopkins, of Sylva, N.C. and David Ledford of Otto, N.C.; three sisters, Emma Woods of Iva, S.C., Mary Tallent and Barbara Ramey both of Franklin, N.C.; three half sisters, Rose, Frances and Opal and a half brother, David Cabe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Lloyd.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 17, in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Bobby Cloer officiating. Burial was in Hodgins Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Ledford, Roger Bates, Jonathan Keener, Jeff Starnes, Jeremy Moore and Brian Cody.

Clyde Vester Hicks

Clyde Vester Hicks, 84, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2013.

Born in Atlanta, Ga., he was the son of the late Frank Carpenter Hicks Sr. and Minnie Glendora Williard Hicks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly Hicks who died in 2004. He was a pastor for many years in the Presbyterian Church. He was well loved by his family and friends.

He is survived by a brother, Bill Hicks and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Friday, March 15, at Clayton Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. Wendell Craker and Rev. Kenneth Meeks officiated. Interment was in the Oakwood Memorial Park in High Point, N.C.

Stephen Ralph Turner

Stephen Ralph Turner, 67, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Monday, March 11, 2013. Born in Lee County, Fla., he was the son of Ray Turner of Franklin and the late Mary Etta Hawkins Turner. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and loved to spend time with his friends. He was a jeweler and liked to hunt and fish; work in his garden, and grow grapes and goats.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Drucilla Ann Davis Turner; one daughter, Stephanie Letourneau and husband Mike of Ft. Myers, Fla.; one son, Steven Turner, Jr. of Tampa, Fla.; a stepson, Charles Beechley and wife Judy of Franklin,; two sisters, Sandy Turner and Lee Willis and husband Michael of Franklin; five grandchildren, Lindsay, Derrick, Tucker, Whitney and Garrett, a niece, Erin and a nephew, Ray also survives.

No services are planned at this time.
