Joan Helen Fallot

Joan Helen Fallot, 85, of Franklin, N.C., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013.

Born in Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of the late George and Helen Fallot. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Kenny Vliet. She retired from the Detroit Edison Power Company where she worked as a stenographer for 37 years. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and she enjoyed drawing, playing bingo, gardening and flowers.

She is survived by a niece, Mildred Lee Schnetzler of Franklin; nephew, John Vliet and wife Debbie of Naples, Fla.; five greatnephews, Michael Vliet and James Vliet both of Detroit, Mich., Robert Vliet of Florida, Timothy Vliet and Gary Andrews both of Franklin and great-niece, Donna Nix of Franklin.

A funeral mass was held Wednesday, Oct. 16, at St. Francis Catholic Church. Father Tien Duong officiated. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Peter Anthony FosterPeter Anthony Foster

Peter Anthony “Pete” Foster, 54, of the Otto Community, went to sleep in the arms of the Lord in the early morning of Sept. 26, 2013, after a brief illness.

He was preceded in his passing by his mother, Estella. He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Jean; daughter, Jodi; sons, Michael and Dakota; granddaughter, Elizabeth; his father, Joe; his brother, Justin; sisters, Theresa and Felice; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a wonderful loving husband, father and “pop pop” as well as a good friend to many. He was proud owner and operator of A/C and D/C Electric, loved the outdoors, hunting and the beauty of nature. He will be missed and treasured by many.

Services were held Monday, Sept. 30, at the St. Helena Catholic Church, Clayton, Ga., with his laying to rest at Wesley Memorial Cemetery, Rabun Gap, Ga.

A memorial reception was held to share memories, kind words, and cherished thoughts of this special man at the Woodman of the World Building in Rabun Gap, following his laying to rest.

Janette Elaine WhiteJanette Elaine White

Janette Elaine White, 59, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Alma Mathis Hedden. She was a 1972 graduate of Franklin High School; a school bus driver for Macon County Board of Education and had worked at Ingles for several years. She was a loving mother and grandmother and loved to read.

She is survived by one daughter, Misty Sargent, of Franklin; one son, Austin Canup of Franklin, Ga.; a special friend, Sandy Jones of Franklin; three sisters, Ann Fullbright of Franklin, Kathy Pendel of Gastonia, N.C. and Dale Turner of Bessemer City, N.C.; two brothers, Randy Hedden of Tamassee, S.C., Ricky Hedden of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, Todd, Jeremiah, Hank, Mark, and Madison, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Lanni Hedden.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Dendy officiating.

Harley Hilden Huffman

Harley Hilden Huffman, 84, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013.

Born in Bryson City, N.C., he was the son of the late Charles Thomas Huffman and Cora Parker Huffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three children, Danny Huffman, Randy Huffman and Linda Childers; two brothers, Henry and Jervie Huffman and a sister, Macie Huffman. He loved woodworking and was a Christian by faith.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene Bishop of Franklin; a son, Steve Huffman of Gastonia, N.C.; niece, Sue Hollingsworth of York, S.C.; sister-in-law, Kitty Bishop; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at West Franklin Church.

Loretta Cabe McDonaldLoretta Cabe McDonald

Loretta Cabe McDonald, 69, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013.

Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Cabe and Bonnie Shephard Cabe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her dearly loved daughter, Lisa Marie Mc- Donald Stepp. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and canning. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and spent her life loving and caring for all the children she kept over 35 years. She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, John “Jack” McDonald; a son, Michael McDonald and wife Sharon of Franklin; two step-daughters, Jackie and Brandy and their families all of Candler, N.C.; two brothers, Tommy Cabe of Franklin and John Cabe of Murphy; two sisters, Wenona Curtis of Franklin and Delores Mason and husband Eddie of Franklin; five grandchildren, Joshua Stepp, Jeremy Stepp, Jacob Stepp, Kaydence McDonald and Addison McDonald; five great grandchildren, Dalton, Catrina, Mellissa and Ivan O’Reilly Stepp and Bryer Blue Newman and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 12, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Tommy Fouts and Rev. David Powell officiated. Burial was in Ridgecrest Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mitchell Cabe, MaAron Cabe, Isaac Cabe, Joey Curtis, Sam Kelly, Elijah Henry and David Croston.

John William ‘Swannie’ SwansonJohn William ‘Swannie’ Swanson

John William “Swannie” Swanson, 89, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2013.

Born in Ducktown, Tenn., he was the son of the late Robert Swanson and Leona McJunkins Swanson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Lee Swanson and three brothers, Lenore, Leonard and Loin Swanson. He was a U.S. Army and Marine Corps veteran and served during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the VFW Post 7339; was a pilot and enjoyed flying and enjoyed playing golf and poker. He loved his family immensely, including his dog, Sweetheart.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Cochran Swanson; seven children, Wanda Phillips and husband Gene of Canton, Ga., Robert Swanson of Venice, Fla., Ken Swanson and wife Bonnie of Appomattox, Va., Mike Ford, Chris Ford, Tony Rutherford and Ramona Swanson Penland and husband Brian all of Franklin; 15 grandchildren; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 14, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Darian Cochran and Rev. Radford Penland officiated. Burial was in the Burningtown Baptist Cemetery with military rites conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108.

Pallbearers were Mike Ford, Chris Ford, Brian Douglas Penland, Brian William Penland, Jonathan Ford and Steve Combs.

Joseph LinzaloneJoseph Linzalone

Joseph Linzalone, 61, of Franklin, passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2013.

Born in Passaic, N.J., he was the son of June Hart Linzalone and the late Joseph Linzalone. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Linzalone. He was a fire chief in Washington State; fire chief in Estero, Fla.; member of the Cowee Volunteer Fire Department serving as President of the Board of Directors; member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, receiving his 30-year pin this year, and was a member of Cowee Baptist Church.

He is survived by his mother, June Hart Linzalone; his wife, Tina Satchell Linzalone; his daughter, Amy Pacheco (Jose) and their children, Marissa, Nikolas and Lorenzo; his daughter, Megan Thornell and her children, Nevin, Ryan, Alicia and Mia; his daughter, Ashley Hawley (Wes); his step daughter, Danielle White (fiancé Matt) and their children, Chelsea Potts (fiancé Jake) and their children, Jacobe and Graycie; and son, Daniel Potts, III and his son Daniel; his stepson, Jason Farnum and his children, Mariah, Dylan, Leila and Annaka; stepson, Joshua Farnum (fiancé Lorraine) and their children, Norman, Amara and Abigale; his sister, Donna Quelch (Richard) and their children, Cyndi Gallo (Dave) and Rick Quelch (Christya); and his brother, Cliff Linzalone (Rhonda) and their children, Anthony and Jolene. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Cowee Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. David Powell, Chaplain of the International Fire Chief Association and the Cowee Volunteer Fire Department will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Macon Funeral Home, 261 Iotla Street, Franklin, NC 28734.

Robert Floyd Clark Sr.Robert Floyd Clark Sr.

Robert Floyd Clark Sr., 71, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2013.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson Clark and Launa Bradley Clark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Clark. He retired from Mohawk Industries in Chatsworth, Ga., and was the former owner and operator of East Franklin Barber Shop. He was a past Lodge Master of Eton, Ga. Masonic Lodge and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was also an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and spending time with family.

He is survived by four children, Laura Wood and husband Darrell of Franklin, Robert Clark Jr. and wife Laura Wiggins Clark of Franklin, Matthew Clark of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Jacob Clark and wife Sarah of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Sally Seay of Franklin; grandchildren, Lyndie Cowan, Jacob Clark Jr. and Evelyn Clark and lifelong friends, Landy Pendergrass and Terry Queen.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be Landy Pendergrass, Ed Downs, Robert Shepherd, Bill Stanfield, Walt Tant, Jim Brown and Joe Brown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
