Features Shop Franklin First encourages support for local small retailers

A joint initiative by the Franklin Tourism Development Authority and the Franklin Main Street Program is supporting local small retailers by encouraging locals and visitors alike to Shop Franklin First.

Although this initiative is not new, a renewed focus by these organizations hopes to bring more attention to our local small businesses.

The centerpiece of the initiative is http://www.shopfranklinfirst.com/. “The Shop Franklin First website has been online for several years and showcases Franklin’s diverse and unique small retail businesses,” said Linda Schlott, Franklin Main Street Program Executive Director. The website is a companion site of the Franklin TDA’s official tourism site for the Town of Franklin. The site lists small retail businesses within the Franklin city limits with a short description and location/contact information.

“As part of the Shop Franklin First initiative, we encourage owners to visit the official Facebook page of SFF to promote their businesses and holiday sales. If your business has a special holiday sale or new item that you would like to showcase, simply visit www.facebook.com/shopfranklinfirst and post your comments.”

First and foremost, this initiative is available to all small retail businesses within the Franklin city limits at no charge. “We know that small business owners are looking for affordable ways to promote themselves and what better way than with this free service,” said Schlott.

Another part of this initiative are billboards that encourage shopping locally this holiday season. “These billboards are provided by the Franklin Tourism Development Authority for the Main Street Program’s continued support of Franklin’s small businesses,” Schlott concluded.

Red Carpet Events are another aspect of Shop Franklin First. These events welcome new business to the Franklin Main Street Program District and are featured on the Shop Franklin First website.
