The Macon County Economic Development Commission has announced details of the upcoming BizWeek 2014 events scheduled for April 22 to 24. BizWeek is a celebration of business, industry and entrepreneurship in Macon County.
“BizWeek 2014 is not only designed to show appreciation and support for all our businesses, both large and small, but also offers educational and networking opportunities to encourage economic growth,” said Tommy Jenkins, director of the Macon County EDC. “Working with our public and private sponsors, we have an exciting schedule of events planned.”
Two events are slated for Tuesday, April 22. Southwestern Community College’s Small Business Center will present two programs by Martin Brossman, social media expert. The first, "Shop Local, Buy Local, Invest Local," begins at 9 a.m. on the Macon Campus of SCC. During this program attendees will learn how to generate a dynamic Shop Local strategy to help their business, town and county.
The second program begins at 2 p.m., also on the SCCMacon Campus. "Getting More Engagement & Results for Small Biz Using Photography and Video." The explosion of Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram has proven that photography and video is a powerful tool to market business. This how-to class teaches the basics of photography and videography to attract more customers with social media and web marketing.
Wednesday, April 23, at 10 a.m., BizWeek continues with Entrepreneur Networking Night IV which begins at 5:30 p.m. at Motor Company Grill in Historic Downtown Franklin. Special guest for the event is Henry Doss, Chief Strategy Officer of T2VC.
Doss serves as CSO and Executive in Residence with T2VC, a Silicon Valley based capital venture firm. Doss has more than 25 years of business experience and has been a leader in start ups, early stage ventures and business restructuring as well as entrepreneurship. He also serves as Executive in Residence for the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at UNC-Charlotte and is a contributing columnist with Forbes Magazine.
BizWeek activities conclude on Thursday, April 24, with the Annual BizWeek Banquet to be held beginning at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Holly Springs Baptist Church. The event will feature keynote speaker Dr. David O. Belcher, Chancellor of Western Carolina University, as well as the BizWeek 2014 Honorees and the 2014 Macon County Business Plan Competition Grand Prize Winner announcement.

He has proven himself to be an energetic and effective leader who encourages strategic thinking, promotes collaboration and inclusiveness, and makes student success a university-wide responsibility. All BizWeek 2014 events are free of charge. However, space is limited and pre-registration is required.
