The Franklin Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting at Deb’s Cats ‘N’ Quilts, to celebrate a major expansion to the store located at 106 W. Palmer Street. The ribbon was cut by shop owner Deb Heatherly and her husband, Phillip. Present to view the cutting were chamber board members, shop staff and customers thrilled with the new space.
Deb’s has been in this location for more than five years with approx. 1650 sq. ft. of retail space. The recent expansion added 2,300 sq. ft. more, giving them almost 4,000 sq. ft. total. New fabric lines were added and the classroom more than tripled in size, which was a big hit with staff and customers alike.
Parking behind the store and a new side entrance complete with ramp, gives students easy entrance to roll machines directly into the classroom. Natural lighting from three beautiful new windows make sewing in the classroom a joy.
Deb’s has been a JANOME sewing machine dealer for five years and this expansion also gave the store a larger area for the sewing machine sales dept. In addition to sewing machines, Deb’s carries a complete selection of quilting books and supplies and a variety of fabrics including Moda, Marcus Brothers, Kaye England, Jo Morton, Batiks, 30's and more. Deb's specializes in civil war repro fabrics and cat themed fabrics and patterns.
Deb’s offers a variety of sewing and quilting classes that feature projects for Beginner through Advanced. The class schedule is posted on their website www.Debscatsnquilts.com and updated monthly. One of their most popular classes is a monthly Ladies night with a covered dish supper followed by sewing and fun. This class fills quickly and is already sold out for the month of April. Ladies night usually takes place the last Friday night of each month from April through October. Another popular class is the monthly “make-it-take-it” class which features a different quick and easy project each time.
Deb's Cats N Quilts is located at 106 W. Palmer St. across from Ace Hardware. The building was home to Franklin’s first Buick dealership in the late ’40s. The recent expansion was a total transformation of what used to be the service bay section of the dealership. The building is owned by Karl and Janet Gillespie.
