With a little help from Macon County, a local business will receive nearly $90,000 from the state for upgrades and improvements. Brasstown Beef, LLC, which has recently taken ownership of Nantahala Meats, secured a Rural Development grant from the state in the amount of $87,777 to support the expansion of the 11,340-square-foot building located along West Palmer Street in Franklin.

Nantahala Meats has operated on West Palmer Street since 1947 when the original building was constructed, and now, with the transition to Brasstown Beef, will be able to expand and add additional jobs to the local economy.

The Holly Springs Plaza with its vacant storefronts is all too common in small town USA as the big box stores move in and out, leaving empty shopping centers. But that might all change by the end of the month. According to Sam Young, Vice President of DTZ, a commercial real estate firm, an online auction for the Holly Springs Plaza Property will open later this month on July 20.

With the economy’ beginning to recover, Macon County Economic Development Director Tommy Jenkins has continued his work promoting the county and the benefits of doing business in rural western North Carolina by meeting with several Atlanta area consultant firms.

“I met with six different firms to discuss Macon County and our current and upcoming available manufacturing facilities,” said Jenkins.

Jenkins' meetings included face-to-face time with commercial and industrial real estate firms such as The Stephen W. Wright Company, Galaxy Partners, and Cushman & Wakefield. The firms have different areas of expertise and specialize in different areas that could potentially find Macon County to be the perfect home for expansion opportunities.
