The Franklin Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Happy Daze Donuts n’ Pastries located at 38 Palmer Street Circle.

Shelli Allen has had a dream to own a donut shop for as long as she can remember and that dream has come true.

“Last summer we started selling our donuts and pastries at the Farmers Markets around town, perfecting our recipes and getting feedback from those who purchased from us,” said Allen. “We were encouraged by our sales volume and what we heard. Along with my husband, we decided to open a store front. Since opening we have been blessed by the support from Franklin residents,” Allen continued.

The Franklin Chamber of Commerce along with town and county officials recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of The Franklin House Assisted Living and Memory Care. This Meridian Senior Living facility is located at 186 One Center Court below the Corporate Office of Macon Bank.

The Ambassadors of Jackson County have a new slate of officers.

“The Ambassadors are the ‘Good Will Arm’ of the Chamber,” says Julie Spiro, executive director of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. “While all the ambassadors work and have their own careers and businesses, they graciously give of their time to assist others in the business community. Our Ambassadors spend time following up with members, encouraging them to attend Chamber events and get involved in what is going on in Jackson County.”

A U.S. congressman and a state senator, along with dozens of community, business and industry leaders throughout Southwestern Community College’s service area, will be in attendance.

However, the business of cutting a ribbon for SCC’s advanced manufacturing education facility won’t fall to any of those fully capable folks.

Instead Baxter, a state of the-art robot training system, is set to wield the scissors at 10 a.m. on Nov. 24 at the Swain Business Education and Training Center.

He’ll be joined by U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows (RGlenville), N.C. Sen. Jim Davis (R-Franklin) as well as SCC officials, public school representatives, industry leaders and county commissioners from Jackson, Macon, Swain Counties and the Qualla Boundary.
