AdvantageWest, French Broad Vignerons, and Warren Wilson College provide support

With a month left before the conference several organizations have provided support in several ways. AdvantageWest is providing some sponsorship funding to the 2nd Annual North Carolina Conference on Sustainable Viticulture to be held Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Warren Wilson College. Matthew Raker, Vice President Entrepreneurship & AdvantageGreen, said “Viticulture supports a diversity of expanding industries in Western North Carolina such as wine, natural products and tourism. AdvantageWest is excited to be able to support this conference bringing together nationally recognized leaders in sustainable viticulture and serving as an annual focal point for our region’s grape-based industries.“

Closure due to decrease in funding

The new year brings new happenings with Smoky Mountain Pregnancy Care Center (SMPCC). The organization opened its doors as a pregnancy resource center in 2001. In 2003, the Board of Directors began the process of converting the resource center into a medical clinic to provide free pregnancy tests and limited ultrasounds. It has been operating as a medical center since that time. In 2004, the board made the expansion to Cullowhee to serve the population that has the most abortions; college aged women and men. In addition to free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds, SMPCC’s medical offices provide classes on various topics concerning pregnancy, childrearing, and life skills.
