With the coming of autumn, the grand opening of Franklin’s new Walmart Supercenter also draws near.
Last week, the company announced its search for potential employees, signifying the highly anticipated grand opening of the store almost two years since contruction began in 2010. With a tentative opening date of Oct. 26, the corporation is looking to hire 85-100 additional employees to work at the new Wells Grove Road store.
As the new Walmart hits its growth spurt— from 90,000 square feet to 118,000 square feet— the need for additional employees must be met.
According to store manager James Fox, the current Walmart, located at 305 Holly Springs Plaza has approximately 200 employees. After hiring additional Supercenter employees, that count will reach 300 workers—a considerable economic boon for Macon County, he asserts.
“We are excited to bring good jobs with career opportunities to the Franklin area,” Fox said, adding that the store will be hiring both full and part-time associates to work in all areas of the store, including supervisory positions.
According to an August 17 media release announcing the need for employees, Walmart’s benefit program is available to eligible full- and part-time associates and provides a variety of affordable health benefits including medical insurance with no lifetime maximum. Walmart also offers matching 401(k) contributions of up to six percent of pay, discounts on general merchandise for store associates, an Associate Stock Purchase Program and company-paid life insurance. Additionally, eligible associates receive a quarterly incentive based on store performance.
Interested applicants can apply online at http://www.careers.walmart.com or at the current store, located at Holly Springs Plaza. The majority of associates will begin work in September to help prepare the store for its grand opening later this fall.
New plaza, new stores
Along with Franklin’s new Walmart location, new stores will move in to fill the 152,000 square foot building area.
According to Neil Meyers, of the plaza’s development group Bright-Meyers LLC, the new plaza will contain 12 additional shops, some of which will also be hiring.
Cato’s, Shoe Show, Sally’s Beauty Supply, Dollar Tree and U.S. Cellular will be moving to the new location. New stores are slated to open at the Plaza including a new Chinese restaurant, a Great Clips hair salon and a G2K comic book and video game emporium. Four other stores are set to open at a later date in the remaining commercial spaces.
“It’s going to be a tremendous improvement to the town,” said Fox. “It will provide one-stop shopping, and an amazing atmosphere in a new store. It’s good for the community.”
