September 14 game against Brevard
Franklin High School Booster Club’s annual “Salute to Veterans” is scheduled to be held at Franklin High School’s Panther Pit on Friday, Sept. 14, before the home game against Brevard. Event organizer Rhonda Blanton has spent the last several weeks speaking before civic organizations to inform the community of the event. Blanton has spoken before the Macon County Board of Commissioners, the Board of Education and most recently, the Franklin Board of Alderman in hopes of generating community support.
This will be the third year that Franklin High School has paid tribute to veterans in the community. Blanton helped organize the event beginning in 2010 as a way to thank her father and members of the military in the community. In addition to Macon County veterans, Blanton informed commissioners that she has been in contact with Brevard to invite their veterans onto the field as well.
According to Blanton, although veterans from all wars are invited and encouraged to attend, this year the ceremony will pay special tribute to veterans from the Korean and World War II wars. Special music will be provided by Blue Ridge gospel group of Franklin.
The ceremony is slated to begin at 6:45 p.m., but veterans are asked to arrive by 6:30 p.m. to make their way on to the field. Tickets to the event are free for veterans and include one guest and are available at Franklin High School, Franklin Chamber of Commerce, Party Zone, or can be clipped out above.
