News Fire claims Trimont Mountain Road home

A fire Saturday afternoon rendered this Trimont Mountain Road home a total loss.Local fire departments responded to a house fire on Trimont Mountain Road shortly after noon last Saturday. As a result of the fire, the home is believed to be a total loss. Along with the house, a Dodge Ram pickup truck was also burned.

A woman who was pulled from the structure was taken to Angel Medical Center to be examined and/or treated for smoke inhalation.

The blaze lasted about three hours with Clarks Chapel, Cowee, West Macon, and Cullasaja Fire Departments providing assistance to Franklin Fire Department.

According to Fire Investigator Farrell Jamison it does not appear as though the fire started inside the main part of the house.

“The way it looks at this time, we think it may have started in the carport area. The vehicle at the scene had been moved out, but after some further investigation we will be able to figure out whether it was the cause. The next step I take will be to go through the reports and look in to the history of the vehicle to see if there is anything that stands out there.”

Macon County Sheriff's Department handled the initial investigation of the fire.
