News LWV sets election forum for candidates for mayor

Bob ScottOn Thursday, Oct. 10, the Macon County League of Women Voters will host a forum for mayoral candidates for the Town of Franklin. Long-time mayor, Joe Collins, is stepping down.

Two candidates, Sissy Pattillo and Bob Scott, are vying for the position. Both currently serve as aldermen on the town board.

Three alderman seats are available, with ten candidates competing for those seats. Two seats are being vacated by Scott and Pattillo; Billy Mashburn is running for reelection.

A forum was held on Sept. 24 for all candidates. By focusing on the mayoral candidates, this forum will provide for more in-depth discussion by the two candidates.

The election will be held on Nov. 5. Only town residents may vote, but candidates acknowledge the importance of the town to all county residents and are addressing that fact. The public is invited to attend and to meet and talk with the candidates.

Sissy PattilloThe meeting will be held at Tartan Hall at noon on Oct. 10. Attendees are welcome to bring a bag lunch. The League of Women Voters is a nationwide non-partisan organization that focuses on voter education, voter rights, and citizen participation in government and community.
