The American Indian allegory of a thousand mile journey beginning with the first step was very appropriate for The Macon County Veterans’ Memorial Committee back in 2007.
A few dedicated individuals started such a journey with a concept.
Now they have completed many milestones with the help and support of their fellow veterans, families, local businesses, and Macon County, the Town of Franklin, and the Town of Highlands.
As the Memorial has taken shape over the past years and months, it has become a fitting tribute to the dedicated service of those to whom it honors.
This Memorial Day, May 30, will mark a major phase in its completion with the dedication of the individual service monuments to which the public is cordially invited. With this phase, major construction will be completed.
It does not mean however, that the need for financial support has ended. There is still time to honor your own, a friend’s or relative’s service through a brick purchase or a memorial donation. Improvements and maintenance require funding support.
For further information, contact the Macon County Veterans’ Memorial at P.O. Box 474, Franklin, N.C. 28744 or phone Mr. A. Pitman at (828)369-8041 for brick applications.
