News Community Rotary honors White, Ritter as Students of the Month

Emily White, (at right with Rotarian Susie Ledford) daughter of Gina Gribble, is a senior at Franklin High School. Emily was honored for her volunteer efforts in the community. She has logged more than 1,000 hours with the New Century Scholars volunteer program, including working at various benefits in the area, Relay For Life, school beautification and the Summer Adventure Camp.

Emily has earned the Wayne Proffitt Memorial Scholarship, the Prospective Teacher Scholarship, and the New Century Scholarship. She will be attending Southwestern Community College in the Fall and eventually transfer to Western Carolina University where she will major in elementary education.

Ashley Ritter, (left) daughter of Nancy and Tom Ritter, is a rising fourth year student at Macon Early College. Ashley was honored for her work as a math tutor for elementary and high school students, as a junior volunteer at Angel Medical Center where she has logged more than 200 volunteer hours, and for her fundraising efforts for Angel Medical Center and Macon Early College.

Ashley recently completed a student internship at Mountain View Intermediate School. She is a member of the Key Club, Yearbook Staff and Future Teachers of America.

She is on schedule to graduate in May 2012 with her high school diploma and her Associate of Arts degree from Southwestern Community College. She plans to continue her education at Western Carolina University where she will major in business and minor in education.
