Gregory Hunt (R) of Franklin recently attended the Department of North Carolina, Marine Corps League convention in Mooresville, and came home with two new titles. Hunt was elected by the members of the Marine Corps League in North Carolina to be the Department’s Judge Advocate.
This elected position is responsible for the interpretation of the National and Department By Laws of the Marine Corps League; advise, and render opinions on questions of law and procedures to the Department Commandant, Department Board of Trustees, and to the 57 MCL Detachments in North Carolina.
Gregory was also named 2011 Department of North Carolina, Marine of the Year.
The Marine of the Year selection is done annually and is voted on by the DoNC Marine of the Year Society.
Gregory stated, “This selection by my fellow Marines is a great honor and one that means a great deal. I believe in giving back to the community and my fellow veterans because they have given so much to me.”
Pictured is the guest speaker at this year’s convention Lt. General Frank A. Panther, USMC, Deputy Commandant of Installations and Logistics for the Marine Corps. Lt. General Panther spoke on the current state of the Marine Corps, troops serving in the Middle East and throughout the world. His motivating speech, according to Hunt was “refreshing and very well received.”
The 2012 DoNC Marine Corps League Convention will be held in Cherokee. Hunt is a member of the Smoky Mountain Detachment of the Marine Corps League.
