News Community 4th Annual 'Cold for a Cause' benefits the community

Franklin Chamber of Commerce holds annual awards banquet

For the fourth year in a row, Patrick Jenkins spent 48 hours high above Macon County to stir community support for CareNet. This year, Jenkins’ efforts encouraged the community to donate 1,052 pounds of food and more than 2,000 coats to be given to CareNet.

With the help of the community group Franklin Young Professionals Inc. and CareNet Director, Shaina Adkins, once again, Jenkins’ efforts benefited those in need in the community.

Recognizing his efforts, Jenkins was named the Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year during its annual banquet.

Patrick Jenkins (R) was the recipient of the Citizen of the Year award presented by 2012 Chamber past president Fred Jones. Jenkins is known for his annual Cold for a Cause event which benefits CareNet.Stacy Guffey was the recipient of the Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award. Guffey is currently working to turn the former Cowee School into a multipurpose heritage facility for the Cowee Community. With Guffey is Lisa Leatherman (R) Duke Energy Nantahala Area District Manager.Shaina Adkins accepts the award for CareNet, the Chamber’s Club/Organization of the Year, presented by D’Anne Maddox.Alex Vuillemen (R) was honored for his 29 years of volunteering at the Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce. Chamber president Pam Bell presented the award.Scotty Corbin, artistic director with the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts, accepts the award for Chamber Member of the Year presented by Chamber Executive Director Linda Harbuck.Mitch Sands of Mercy Mountain Boys provided entertainment for the event.
