News Community Judy Moore scholarships awarded to four students

Board members not pictured, Betsy James and Jim Moore.Board members of the Judy Moore Scholarship Endowment Committee have announced that four scholarships for $1,000 each have been awarded to Courtney Dryman, Sean Meagher, Edith Jennings and Kaycee Cashion. Awards are given for tuition, books, room and board and any other directly related educational expenses to candidates who are enrolled in nursing degree programs.

Courtney Dryman, the daughter of Sam and Cindy Dryman, will graduate from Western Carolina University in December 2013. Her career goal is to work in women’s health – either Labor and Delivery or or the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She also is considering furthering her education and becoming a certified nurse midwife.

Sean Meagher is pursuing his nursing degree from Southwestern Community College and will graduate in May 2014. Meagher is on the Dean’s list and is a member of the National Technical Honor Society. His career goal is to work as a nurse in either emergency or intensive care. He is married to Alicia Cabe Meagher.

In May 2014, Edith Jennings will receive her Associate Degree in nursing from Southwestern Community College. Jennings is listed in the Who’s Who Among Students in Universities and Colleges, 2012, is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and received the SCC Academic Award 2013 for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Her career goal is a focus in obstetrical nursing.

Kaycee Cashion has a career goal to work in a medical-surgical unit and is considering eventually working in trauma or obstetrics. She is planning to pursue a Bachelor’s or Masters’ degree in nursing. Cashion recently received the Rotary Nursing Scholarship and is married to Justin Cashion. She will graduate in May 2014.

The endowment is affiliated with the North Carolina Community Foundation and was established in 1997 in memory of Judy Moore RN who through her devotion to the nursing profession was an inspiration to fellow nurses, patients and leaders in the community.
