News Community Amateur bakers invited to enter Best Cake Contest at Macon County Fair

The Macon County Fair cake committee invites all non-professional bakers to gather their best cake recipe and bake that special cake and enter the Macon County Fair Best Cake contest.

Entries with recipes will be accepted on Saturday, Sept. 14, between 10 and 11 a.m. at the Macon County Fair pavilion. Participants may use the entry form in the Macon County Fair catalogue (page 92), or the form at the register table to register one or more entries. This contest is separate from the baked products which are entered on Tuesday and judged on Wednesday.

To prepare a cake for entry in the contest, place cake on a sturdy piece of cardboard which has been covered with foil. The cardboard should extend one inch beyond the cake on all sides. Place the cake in a large, clear food grade bag. A turkey roasting bag works well. An accurate recipe must be submitted with each cake entry. The recipe must be separate from the cake so copies can be made for each judge.

Judging will begin at 11 a.m. at the pavilion. Entries are judged on overall appearance, inside characteristics, flavor and recipe originality. All entries and recipes become the property of the Macon County Fair. All recipes and photos may be printed in the Macon County Fair cookbook.

Following the judging (about 12 noon) and proclamation of the Macon County Fair 2013 Best Cake, pictures will be taken then all entries with recipes will be auctioned off. All proceeds go to the Macon County Fair.
