Macon Early College's (MEC) student council wanted to kick off the year by giving back to the community. Since many MEC students volunteer at CareNet, the school decided that a canned food drive would be a great way to do just that.
The student council set up a competition between grades to see who could collect the most cans. The competition lasted the month of September.
The competition heated up as juniors and freshmen were neck-and-neck the entire month. The freshmen pulled it out in the end and successfully beat the juniors by 103 cans.
The MEC collection totaled just under 900 pounds of food for CareNet.
