News Community SMHS receives over $4500 from Ford’s ‘Drive 4UR School’ event

Jake Buchanan, Principal at Smoky Mountain High School, along with students receive a check for over $4500 from Larry Hinton, President and General Manager of Andy Shaw Ford. Along with Hinton to make the presentation are Erica Bullock and Dustin Shuler. The money raised came from Ford Motor Company’s Drive 4UR School Event held on October 18th.The “Drive 4UR School” Program once again visited Jackson County on October 18, 2013. The popular program sponsored by Andy Shaw Ford of Sylva and the Ford Motor Company provides much needed funding for local high schools. On Friday January, 10 team members from Andy Shaw Ford presented a check for over $4500 to Jake Buchanan, Principal of Smoky Mountain High School, and members of the student body. Proceeds from this year’s event will be used by the Choral and Band programs as well as to purchase several Android Pads for classrooms.

 “This is a great program that allows us to have a direct impact on secondary education in our community.” said Larry Hinton, President and General Manager of Andy Shaw Ford “With this check we will have delivered nearly $44,000 to our Jackson County High Schools since 2010,” he added. Principal Jake Buchanan echoed Hinton’s remarks when he said, “We certainly appreciate Andy Shaw Ford and the Ford Motor Company and the much needed money they have brought to help education in our community.”

When questioned about the program, Erica Bullock commented, “It’s a very competitive program and only 300 dealers out of over 3,000 are chosen to participate each cycle.” “Thanks to Erica we have been very fortunate to participate in each of the cycles since 2010.” said Hinton. “We hope to be included in the spring cycle for the Early College but won’t know until the end of January,” he added. By the end of 2013, Ford Motor Company will have donated over $20 million to high schools and community organizations with over one million participants’ testdrives!
