News Community McConnell named Britt Honored Scholar

Dr. Richard Thompson, executive director of NCCAT, presents McConnell the Marjorie T. & John S. Britt Honored Educator Scholar of 2013-14.Missy McConnell, a third grade teacher at Iotla Valley Elementary, was named the Marjorie T. and John S. Britt Honored Educator Scholar for 2013-14 while attending the Reading, Writing and Ready by Third Grade: Early Grades Literacy Instruction program Dec. 9-15 on the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching program at Cullowhee. McConnell was recognized for excellence and dedication to teaching in Macon County schools.

Each year, a Britt Honored Scholar is selected from teachers across the state to attend an NCCAT program of choice.

The scholarship covers all costs associated with the teacher’s participation in an NCCAT program including materials; instruction; travel and lodging; residential services; and substitute teacher while the scholar is at NCCAT.

Moreover, the teacher receives $250 for use in the classroom.
