Snowfall accumulations during the recent winter storm varied throughout Macon County with reports from anywhere from a half inch to some places recording nearly four inches.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation stayed busy clearing primary roads Tuesday, with crews reaching the secondary roads on Wednesday. Division 14 of the NCDOT, which includes Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Polk, Swain and Transylvania counties, utilized 82 trucks and 246 employees to de-ice roadways.
Due to the winter weather hitting the coast of North Carolina, 10 percent of Division 14's fleet were sent to Greenville to assist with snow and ice removal.
