News Community LoveLoud provides nearly 1,400 Macon County children with new shoes

Franklin resident Josh Drake gets a high-five from a student who received a new pair of shoes provided by the Franklin campus of Biltmore Baptist Church as part of its LoveLoud outreach.Elementary students across Macon County received a special delivery last week. With brand new Nike shoes in tow, Biltmore Baptist Church’s Franklin campus visited every elementary school in Macon County to fit children with brand new footwear.

“Biltmore is constantly trying to think of ways to reach out to our community and show them we care,” said Patrick Trawick, Franklin Campus pastor. “We kept hearing so many positive things from the LoveLoud event with East Franklin Elementary last year that we wanted to pursue doing it again this year. One thing led to another and we were able to do it again with all of the schools in Franklin.”

Last year, Biltmore was able to fit 319 children with new shoes, and this year they wanted to go even bigger. Expanding to all of the elementary schools in the county – Iotla, Cartoogechaye, East Franklin and South Macon – this year, just under 1,400 children received new shoes from the program. Volunteers with the church worked to make sure each child was properly fitted with a brand new pair of Nikes.

“We love our community. Franklin is our home. It's where we live, work, and play,” said Trawick. “We believe that Jesus reached out and served the people in his life. Serving was important to him. Because of that we emphasize the importance of serving all the time at our church. I would be remiss as a pastor if all I did was tell people they need to serve but never offered an opportunity for them to serve. Because we love our community we want to serve our community.”

Biltmore Franklin campus hopes to continue programs such as these as outreaches into the community.

I'm thankful that Dr. Baldwin and all of the principals allowed us to serve them this way. We're looking forward to more opportunities to serve Franklin in the future. That's why we're here.”
