Even in the largest of gun shops throughout the region, no larger variety of firearms, security systems, knives and collectibles could be found beneath one roof last weekend than at Franklin’s Gem Capitol Gun Show.

Held on Saturday and Sunday at the Macon County Community Facilities Building, thousands of gun enthusiasts from near and far came to see what more than 50 vendors had to offer at the show.

“This is some of the best shopping around,” said Clayton, Georgia resident Mike Betts on Sunday, who explained he would be teaching his 12-year old son the basics of firearms for this upcoming winter. I found some great rifles for him to learn on … There is a lot to offer.”


Maddie Brown is teaming up with the Asheville-based Christian nonprofit, Sole Hope for her senior project at Franklin High School.

Brown has been working with the Sole Hope team to organize shoe parties at FHS to bring awareness to the nonprofit.

“My goal is to at least make 150 shoes for Sole Hope so they can take it over on one of their mission trips,” she said.


Phyllis Jean Leone of Franklin (seated) celebrated her 80th birthday with five generations of her family.

The party was held at St. Johns Catholic Church in Waynesville with about 75 people attending from North Carolina, Florida and Indiana.




The Franklin High School graduating class and associates of 1953 held an annual reunion on their 58th anniversary.

The second Saturday of October is set aside each year to get together and strengthen the bonds formed so many years ago.

The class is grateful to First Presbyterian Church for use of Tartan Hall, a superb facility.
