Franklin High School Class of 1961 recently held its 50th reunion. Activities included a picnic at noon at the Macon County rec park shelter and a dinner/dance that evening at Mill Creek Country Club.

Eighty classmates attended the events and some traveled frm Virginia, Montana, Texas and Hawaii to attend.

A possible scholarship fund for selected FHS seniors is being reviewed by class members.

Proceeds from the Zeta Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi annual Wine & Cheese fundraiser were recently donated to Macon Citizens Habilities (MCH).

MCH provides residential services in Macon and Jackson counties to 33 persons.

Approximately 45 persons with developmental disabilities are served at Macon Citizens Enterprises, a day program for adults with developmental disabilities.

On Thursday, Aug. 11, Alan Durden of the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service will talk about the local food movement in Macon County at a program sponsored by the League of Women Voters.

He will describe local food sources and projects — tailgate markets, stands, farmers’ markets, and community gardens. He will discuss the marketing concerns of local farmers, how is what farmers grow and market changing, and in what direction is agriculture moving.

Members of the Franklin First United Methodist Church are getting ready for their 24th Annual Bazaar Friday, July 29, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, July 30, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wayne Proffitt Agriculture Center, 441 Georgia Hwy.

Crafts, clothing, furniture, toys, books, plants, food and more.

Proceeds benefit Missions Committee.
