It is no secret that the nation's economy is far from recovering, and with record high unemployment rates, and more and more families struggling to make ends meet, every little bit helps. Communities across the contry have began working together to help each other survive these hard times. Two Dillard, Ga women have taken it upon themselves to do their part for teenagers in neighboring counties.

Dena Carver and her sister-in-law Crystal Carver have started a program called “Fairy Prom Mothers” with the intention of making sure any boy or girl wanting to go to prom is able to do so.

Jim and Teresa Burns of Sylva announce the birth of their granddaughter, Madison Marie Riley. She weighs five pounds and 12 ounces and is 19 inches long.

Madison was born to T.J. Burns from Sylva and James Riley from Maryville, Tennessee at the Blount Memorial Hospital in Tn. Because Madison was born at 3:32 am on February 29, 2012.

This being a leap year, the parents got to choose if they wanted her birthday to be Feb. 28 or March 1.

2012 Mr. and Miss FHS dance was held on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the FHS gym.

Eric Phommakisone and Jordann Wood were crown Mr. and Miss FHS.

The Macon County Community Foundation’s (an affiliate of the N.C. Community Foundation) annual mystery dinner theater will be held three nights in a row starting Thursday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m., and will run Friday and Saturday night at Fat Buddies BBQ. Originally scheduled as a two night event, an additional night has been added to accommodate all those interested in attending.

This year’s play, “The Grimm Tales of Mother Goose” is an outrageously hilarious production which pokes fun at the uptight “Politically Correct” atmosphere of the 1990’s. See your favorite, although sensitive, childhood characters as they take part in the Annual Nursery Land Banquet.
