The Franklin High School Class of 1952 held its 60th reunion Saturday, Sept. 15, at the West Macon Fire Department.

There were 34 class members present with 20 spouses/friends and a special guest, Myra Waldroop.

Many activities were planned for the reunion — a jitter-bug contest, 50 yard dash, football and a square dance. These had to be cancelled due to whether (class members were not sure WHETHER they could do them or not).

On Sunday, Oct. 14 from 3 to 5 p.m., an Open House will be held at Franklin Covenant Church commemorating the 50 years of Christian missionary service at home and abroad of Herman F. Weits.

Herman pastored various churches in Michigan, New Jersey and Vermont while waiting for the call to serve in the mission field. An opportunity came through Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. He then served with YWAM in his home country, the Netherlands, as well as in Curacao, several S.E. Asia countries and mostly in Indonesia.

Herman’s wife Ros served three years as an elementary school teacher and eight years as a house mother to 14 orphaned children with S.O.S. Kinderdorfin Lembang, West Java, Indonesia. She later joined YWAM in Indonesia. It was there that she met Herman. They were married in August 1988. Together they served with YWAM in Australia.
