News Education Victory hands out awards, holds graduation

Special awards were presented at a recent Awards Night at Victory Christian School according to Principal Jim Petersen.

Sarah Stallings received a MVP trophy for her performance in the Victory Challenge Basketball Invitational Tournament. Summer McMahan was awarded a trophy for being selected to the NCCSA 1-A All-State Girls’ Basketball Team. Brayden McMahan received a trophy for being selected to the NCCSA 1-A All-State Boys’ Basketball Team at the same meeting.

Students earning an “A” average received a medal and certificate for their Academic Excellence. Those students receiving straight “As” for the school year were: Isaac Jones, Christian Scott, Joseph Vernelson, and Emily Watson; Callie LaVigne, Shannon Cogdill, Anais Crauwels, Lynzy Drinnon, and Charlie Franks; Alyssa Driggers, Matthew Ridley and Joy Wahl; Isaac Deal, Kenzie Latta, Leigh Ann Coffey and Summer McMahan.

Those receiving the Christian Leadership Award were: Callie LaVigne, Dalton Jones, Ashlyn Wall, Elizabeth Branscome, Joy Wahl, Sarah Stallings, Isaac Deal, Kennedy Rogers and Leigh Ann Coffey.

Victory Christian School held graduation exercises Friday, June 3. Graduates are Leigh Ann Coffey (High Honors), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Coffey of Dillsboro; Brandon T. Fenoglio, son of Mr. and Mrs. Terrill Dodgins of Otto; Lucas R. Lanpher, son of Mr. and Mrs Donald Lanpher of Sylva; Summer B. McMahan (Valedictorian), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam McMahan of Sylva; Lisa M. Supernant (Honors), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Newton of Franklin; and Samantha A. Tincher-Jones (Salutatorian), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Jones of Franklin. Victory Christian is unique in that more than 90 percent of graduates go on to college. Speaker for the graduation exercise was Dr. George B. Bagwell, pastor of Victory Baptist Church.
