“We engage our students right from the start,” said Thom Brooks, Southwestern Community College vice president of instruction and student services.
At their very first meeting on campus as a group, new students experienced interacting with each other during Orientation Thursday, Dec. 1, on the Jackson Campus.
“That’s one of the reasons Washington Monthly ranks us a Top 10 USA Community College,” said Brooks.
“Much of the rating is based on the Community College Survey of Student Engagement that tests colleges on how well they use techniques that lead to better learning. These techniques include how students collaborate with other students and interact with faculty and staff.
SCC continuously ranks high in this category.”
Registration for spring semester remains open, with final registration Jan. 5.
