Developing the necessary skills for landing a dream job is ample incentive for Southwestern Community College students to attend career seminars this spring.
Drake Enterprises has once again stepped in to further sweeten the pot.
Three Drake entities (Boiler Room Steak House, The Factory and Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts) pitched in to secure a laptop that will be given away to a lucky SCC student who attends three or more of the 11 career seminars the college puts on throughout the school year.
The laptop will be given away at the seminar finale on April 10.
“We’re delighted that the folks at Drake Enterprises have made such a generous donation as they’ve done for many years now,” said Patty Kirkley, career counselor at SCC. “Many of our students take advantage of these seminars, and this prize will surely encourage even more to attend in the spring. Regardless of who gets the laptop, all our students who attend these seminars will walk away with valuable skills they can use the rest of their lives.”
Held from September through April, the seminars supply students with soft skills they need for securing and maintaining employment. Topics covered range from resume nuts and bolts to office politics and dining etiquette.
Other sponsors who donated prizes include: Andy Shaw Ford, Bogart’s, Indulgence Salon, Krismart, Lucio’s, Walmart, Tips & Toes, Skincare Solutions, SCC Foundation and SCC’s cosmetology program.
