Zonta Rose Day marks International Women’s Day
Annually on March 8, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. Diverse activities connect women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through local women’s craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more. The United States even designates the month of March as Women’s History Month.
As we listen to the current world news, it reminds us there is still much need to address human rights for all people and particularly the inequities of women’s rights globally.
Zonta Rose Day, celebrated by Zonta International Organizations, corresponds with International Women’s Day.
Zonta Club of Franklin would like to express our appreciation to some of the women in our community that have made a difference in Macon County. We honor the lives and contributions of those who work to improve the status of women and children. “Thank You” to Ann Van Harlingen for your work through REACH; Jennifer Hollified for your “Ladies Night Out” programs through Angel Medical Center; Kathy Makinson, for your counseling services; Patti McClure, for your educational activities with our children; and Stephanie Pellicier, for your professional service with women’s issues of domestic violence and sexual assault through the Macon County Sheriff’s Department.
Make everyday International Women’s Day. Let’s ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding. We can make a difference. Think globally and act locally!
