Especially during this season of thankfulness and gratitude, I want to offer a sincere thank-you for the support that the Franklin/Macon County community gave our recent Thanksgiving Day meal at the First Presbyterian Church. We church members and friends, through the generosity of donors and with the help of volunteers, served more than 360 meals, including Tartan Hall diners and take-out dinners.
Thanksgiving was a very cold and windy day, but you would never have guessed that it was cold outside based on the warmth of the fellowship inside the church. An undertaking of this size starts with the food, which was prepared by the dedicated kitchen staff at Angel Medical Center. Their talent and labor are appreciated by all. Volunteers helped by decorating Tartan Hall, preparing desserts, working in the kitchen, serving food, staffing the dining room, packaging take-out meals, giving rides, delivering take-out meals, washing dishes, etc. Regular volunteers who come annually to handle certain jobs worked side by side with new people who simply showed up Thanksgiving morning to say, “How can I help? Put me to work.”
This annual event was made possible by generous donations from Macon Bank, the Noontime Rotary Club, and the Kiwanis Club as well as by cash donations given by many diners on Thanksgiving. Speaking for the staff, the planning team members and the congregation of First Presbyterian Church, we sincerely appreciate the kindness and the giving spirit of all who participated in the 2013 community Thanksgiving dinner.
