The draught in California points out the conflict between the environmentalist and the unemployed people who live in the bread basket of California. The unemployment rate in this area is extremely high. This problem has to do with deciding how to the divide up the water supply between the farmers and a little fish called a smelt. Currently the smelt is winning the war and thousands of farmers and unemployed migrant workers are losing. The U.S. Government is backing the smelt in this instant.
Contrast this with the plight of our American Eagles and Red Tail Hawks. Duke Energy was fined one million dollars by EPA for killing eagles and red tailed hawks with wind mills in Wyoming at Duke’s Wind Mill farms in their state. But, President Obama jumped in and put a moratorium on these fines for 30 years for killing birds and bats. Was this because of his desire to promote clean energy? Will the Audubon Society, the Sierra Club, and many other environmental groups let this action pass? Since President Obama has approved this action in favor of clean energy? It looks like the smelt won, the workers and eagles lost.
