The purpose of the Mountain Tennis Association of North Carolina (MTA) is to promote tennis in Macon County for all ages and skill levels.
The short term goals are to improve and enlarge existing public facilities, increase youth development, and provide activities for all ages such as clinics, leagues, tournaments and social events. Officers were elected and include Ross Dodge, president; Michael Falkenstein, vice president; Alene Kiesel, secretary and Kristy Dodge, treasurer.
The most immediate goal is to improve the Franklin Recreation Center’s six hard surface public courts. Preliminary efforts are under way to obtain a United States Tennis Association facilities grant as well as searching for other funding sources.
MTA plans to work closely with the Franklin Youth Tennis Association and to assist in their programs and tournaments. Plans are under way for a general meeting with interested residents whether full or part time.
It is hoped that the tennis community can be organized to promote goals for the benefit of all ages of players.
Franklin is to be proud of the performance of its high school teams and summer FYTA clinics for children and teenagers. Hopefully, adult clinics and leagues can be started.
