The Franklin Panthers continue to thrash opponents. Last Friday they travelled to Brevard to take on the 2-2 Blue Devils. The Blue Devils were coming off two big wins against Cherokee and Mitchell of large deficits and looked to continue to the trend against the home team, Franklin. It didn't quite go as planned, however.
The first quarter remained scoreless, but that changed in the second when Brevard took an early lead with the first touchdown of the game. Shortly after, Jeremiah Young of Franklin matched the score with a touchdown of his own. In the third quarter, Franklin scored two more, putting the minds of FHS fans at ease. In the fourth they put up two more touchdowns. Brevard made a final push, adding seven more to their total, but in the end it was Franklin who took home the win, 33-14.
Tomorrow night, the Panthers will host the Pisgah Bears in what could be their toughest challenge all year. The Bears have posted a 4-1 record, with their lone loss coming from an unbeaten 3-A Erwin team. The unbeaten Panthers have moved up in the rankings to third in the Associated Press Poll, second in the NCPreps Football Poll, and sixth in the MaxPreps football state rankings where there are only two other WNC schools ranked in 2-A, Owen (37) and Polk County (50).
