Smoky defense unable to stop driving Panthers.

Last Friday night, the Franklin Panthers travelled over Cowee Mountain to take on rival Smoky Mountain Mustangs in the annual Battle of Cowee Mountain.

Franklin entered the contest with an undefeated record of 5-0, and jumped into the lead early on with a score of 21-3 at the half. The pace changed when the teams took the field and the contest turned into a shoot out.

The Mustangs began to rally back, but the problem was in their defense. The Mustangs were unable to stop the strong drives that Franklin continued making to the end-zone in the last half.

The Panthers eventually sealed another win, 48-24, moving them to a 6-0 record. They are ranked at number two in the Best of the West rankings behind undefeated Erwin.

On Friday night, the Panthers will play the North Henderson Knights in the Panther Pit for Homecoming starting at 7:30 p.m. A Hall of Fame ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the crowning of the homecoming queen will take place during half-time of the game.
