Lady Panthers end season with nail-biter against Polk
The Lady Panthers volleyball team hosted the first round of the Volleyball State Playoffs Saturday against the Polk County Vipers. The Vipers took the first match with a score of 25-20, but the Lady Panthers rebounded in the second with a win of their own of 25- 20.
Franklin was able to keep it close throughout the next two sets, but was unable to get back on top, eventually losing the match, 3- 1. The Panthers were able to keep each set extremely close and at times looked as though they were within reach of pulling ahead, but were unable to do so eventually falling to Polk County.
The Panthers end their season with a 10-12 record.
Boys cross country excels at conference meet
The Western North Carolina Athletic Conference meet was held at Western Carolina University on Oct. 8 where four of the top five spots were filled by Franklin runners. 2nd: Jimmy Yokel, 16:54; 3rd: Harrison Connor, 17:16; 4th: Caleb Albrecht, 17:19; 5th: Shawn Marcie, 17:24
"We sort of knew that we wouldn't be able to get first place," said head coach Rita Esterwood. "But we knew we could get the other four spots. They did great. We worked on teamwork and they did exactly what we worked on. They ran as a team for the first couple of miles and were able to finish with excellent results. I'm really proud of them."
This weekend the boys cross country team will travel to Freedom High School in Morganton, N.C., for the regional meet.
