The Lady Panthers hosted their second home game on Tuesday night when the North Henderson Knights came to the Panther Den. Franklin entered the contest with a 4-1 record, while the Knights had a 7-3 record and were largely considered to be the next best team behind Franklin and the Pisgah Sugar Bears in the conference.

In the first half of the contest, the game remained close, mostly because neither team seemed to gain their footing. Each team exchanged foul shots and at the end of the half, Franklin held a four point lead with a score of 21-16.

The tempo changed in the second half however. The Lady Panthers quickly began to find their rhythm and the shots began to fall accordingly. Their defense was also effective as it has been so often in the early parts of the season, managing to limit the Knights' second half offense to 10 points. The Panthers easily took the win with a final score of 53-26. The win moves the ladies to a 5-1 overall record and 4-0 in the 3A/2A WNC Conference. Their next contest will take place at home Friday when they host the 1-3 Robbinsville Black Knights at 6:30 p.m.

Panthers get closer to their first win

The boy's varsity basketball team entered Tuesday night's contest with an 0-5 record. The young team hosted a 5-5 North Henderson team at home and the feeling in the air was that they had a good chance to pull off their first win of the season.

That feeling began to fade away in the opening moments of the game when the Knights jumped out to an early eight point lead, but the Franklin boys showed the attending crowd and the opposing team that they weren't going down without a fight. Thanks to some well placed three pointers and some solid defense, the Panthers came barreling back and took a three point lead to the locker room at the close of the half.

The second half would be closely contested, with North Henderson taking the lead again, but the Panthers wouldn't go away. Every time the Knights seemed to be putting distance between them and the home team, another three pointer would have them on their heels again. Franklin was unable to pull ahead again, eventually recording a loss with a score of 66-62, but they showed heart and perseverence in doing so – two traits that will hopefully take them closer to that first win of the season.

They will get another chance Friday when they host the undefeated Robbinsville Black Knights at 8 p.m. at the Panther Den.
