For the second straight week, in the second race of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Matt Kenseth led Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch to the finish line — and for Kenseth, who has struggled at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, that added a dreamlike quality to the victory.

The top seed in the Chase, Kenseth won Sunday's Sylvania 300 by .533 seconds over Busch as JGR asserted its superiority for the second consecutive week. A half hour after the race ended, the magnitude of the victory was still sinking in for the 2003 Sprint Cup champion.

"For me to win at New Hampshire, first of all, is more than a stretch and more than a dream," Kenseth said. "This is probably one of my worst places. That just shows you how good this whole team is. ... I didn't even know there was a Victory Lane here.

Franklin High School's Football, Volleyball, Tennis and Golf teams in action this week!

The Franklin High School varsity football team took on the Swain County Maroon Devils at the Panther Pit last Friday night.

FHS hasn't taken a win off Swain since 2011 when they were able to win at home. In fact, that was the last time Swain lost, making their winning streak 21 games coming into Franklin Friday night.

Franklin came into the game undefeated on the season as well and quickly showed that the streak was of little concern, shooting ahead 14-0 in the second quarter.

JOLIET, Ill. – The rich got richer.

Matt Kenseth, the top seed in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, added to his advantage in Sunday's rain-interrupted GEICO 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.

With a strong push from Kevin Harvick after a restart on Lap 245 of 267, Kenseth pulled away to beat Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch to the checkered flag by .749 seconds and deny Busch the second three-series weekend sweep of his career.

The victory was Kenseth's sixth of the season, tops in the Cup series, and his most ever in a single season. The driver of the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota claimed his first win at Chicagoland and the 30th of his career, 22nd on the all-time list.

The fall sports season at Franklin High School is in full swing. In the gym, girls are playing volleyball, at the Macon Middle School soccer field the guys continue to dominate their competition and on Friday nights, the Panthers' varsity football team suits up to take on all-comers to the gridiron, but the sounds of smashing helmets isn't the only sound coming from the stadium.

The FHS band provides the musical soundtrack for the football team and very ably entertains the audience at half time shows, but not only do they provide backup, they also compete regularly in the fall and turn heads when they do it.
